About Scarlett

Scarlett Clark is a young, up and coming artist based in West London and Manchester, specialising in painting and embroidery. She is primarily inspired by (though not limited to) subjects pertaining to her greatest love of all: the animal kingdom. She sees all beings as having a quality of beauty, character and personality that demands to be seen. Scarlett’s love for animals started with the love of her life, Bo, her Parsons Russell. Bo came into her life when she was 8 years old and has been her best friend since, following her all over London and never failing to make her smile.

Clark is likewise fascinated by human portraiture and embroidery, however the majority of her most treasured works start and end with dogs; and more recently, with an incorporation of the creations of celebrated British designer Celia Birtwell, who, as Clark’s grandmother, has been a huge support (of her artwork) from the very beginning.

Further admirers include David Hockney, who has thereby influenced the style in which she paints, as well as the vibrancy in Clark’s colour-work, whilst also gifting her a new set of slow-drying acrylic paints from his private collection. This has become her preferred medium. Hockney became a supporter of Clark when he was shown her embroideries and eventually commissioned his own Parsons Russell (Ruby) to be embroidered.

Having grown up watching David Attenborough and spending her holidays camping with her family and having an uncle that works on the Umfolozi safari conservation in South Africa, Scarlett has always dreamed to save animals. Aside from this, Scarlett is also an avid adventurer, taking her sketchbook with her on every expedition across the globe. She began with various environmental research projects in her teenage years in Madagascar, to protect lemurs, whales and the like. As well as this, Clark has also completed volunteer work on a turtle sanctuary in Sri Lanka and hopes to continue doing so in other extraordinary countries.

Having such a profound love for animals and nature, Clark’s goal is to create art work that raises awareness for different animal rights issues around the world, whilst of course painting her number one love: dogs.
